When Baby’s Home BetaMade for the days that matter most.

Why we made this

Everyone said “let us know if you need anything.”

Hi. Scot here, with Marcelle. This is the short version of why When Baby’s Home exists, and what we were hoping it would do.

Where it started

We started building this while we were waiting on our own first baby. Pretty quickly we noticed the same thing happening over and over: someone says let us know if you need anything, they mean it, and then nothing happens. Not because anyone flaked. Because “let us know” quietly hands the whole job back to the person with the newborn.

You have to figure out what you actually need, who to ask, when, and then run the group text. And honestly, nobody wants to be the one asking. So the offers sit there, everyone feels a little awkward, and the lasagna never shows up.

Marcelle put it best. We just wanted something that would quietly handle the doorstep so we could keep our hands (and hearts) full of baby.

What was out there

We looked at the usual options. Meal trains, a shared spreadsheet, a group chat. They’re fine, honestly. But a lot of them want your friends to make an account, and all of them are built around dates. Before the baby comes, you don’t have any. Then the baby shows up early (or late, or somehow both) and the whole calendar is wrong.

And most of them assume food comes with a visit. Sometimes you want the lasagna and not the company. No offense to anyone :)

So we made the thing we wanted

  • Friends raise a hand, no date yet

They open one private link, no account, and say what kind of help they’d like to give. Dinner, a dog walk, a check-in. That’s it for now.

  • Real dates open when the baby’s home

You tap one button. Everyone who raised a hand gets one email and picks a real time. If the date moves, the plan moves with it.

  • Far-away friends count

Sending dinner from another city is help. A video call is help. They sit right next to the nearby stuff, not underneath it.

  • Some friends just want to be on call

They can say so and leave a number. Nothing gets scheduled for them. You text them when you need to.

  • You write the instruction once

“Leave it at the door, we’re resting.” Everyone who signs up sees it. Nobody has to text you to ask.

That’s it. It’s not a big app. It’s supposed to fade into the background so your people can just show up.

The stuff we’re stubborn about

Nothing about your family is public. One private link, no directory, no ads, and we don’t sell anything about you. Delete the household and it’s gone within a week. The long version is on the privacy page, and it’s honest about the limits too. A forwarded link is a forwarded link, and we can’t tell.

It’s free while we’re in beta, and every household gets the whole thing. No lite version.

Where we’re at

We’re in beta, so a few edges are still rough. If something is confusing or broken, email us at help@whenbabyshome.com. It goes to a real inbox that we actually read.

And if you’ve got a baby on the way and want to help us test it around your own homecoming, there’s a page for that.

About the research

We read a lot before we built this. Studies on the fourth trimester, what new parents actually needed, why offers of help fade. If you like that sort of thing, it’s all on the research page with links, including the parts that don’t prove anything.

Thanks for reading this far. We hope the next few weeks are full of the good kind of tired.
